Well Child Vaccines: What you need to know
Pediatric vaccines play a role in building immunity by giving your child protection against bacterial and viral infections commonly found in the general population.
The American Academy of Pediatrics abides by the CDC-recommended schedule for vaccinations for children.
However, we understand that every parent and family need time to discuss and ask questions about the implications of these vaccines to determine the vaccine schedule that is best for their child.
When are vaccines given to infants and children?
At birth, Hepatitis B vaccine is recommended and offered for all newborns. Children’s vaccines are then offered at the pediatrician’s office from birth through their sequential well visits based on age. Some vaccines are given as a single component, some are in combined vaccines like Pentacel (5 components) and ProQuad (4 components) based on their manufacturing.
We offer both combined vaccines and single-component vaccines whenever possible so that our families have the ability to choose.
We know that children’s vaccination schedules are a big topic of controversy. There are many sources of information and books written about the dangers of vaccines for children. We support and believe that children’s vaccines offer more benefits than the possible risks, and hope to provide an environment where it feels safe for our families to explore the recommended CDC schedule and other alternatives.
Rest assured that we strive to work with each family individually to provide guidance and address concerns and fears around vaccinations. Our approach is open and non-judgmental. We are here for our families to provide a safe space so that the decisions made on your children’s vaccines are always mutual and well-informed.
