Well Child Visits: What to Expect at Your Pediatrician Visit

As your child grows, they pick up new skills, new behaviors, and ideas along the way. As pediatricians, we follow your child along this journey. Our goal is to provide information, guidance, and expertise in the various aspects of raising a child from baby to adolescent. Especially in today’s world when information is readily available from many sources and platforms, sifting through all of this may be intimidating even to the most discerning eyes.
We are here to offer insights that are not only based on medical knowledge but also from the experience of caring for children and evidence-based research so that you can feel empowered to make the right decisions for your child.
What to expect at your next well-child visit:
We love to get to know you
Parenting is a 24/7 hour job and with the time we have together, I want to hear about your experience from your standpoint.
- What does the day-to-day look like for your family?
- Who’s watching your child when you’re away?
- What kind of interests does your child have, and what kind of activities are you doing together as a family?
By listening to you, I can better understand your concerns and see them through your lens; and also help you find solutions to them.
We love to interact with your child
In pediatric care, our children are the center of our world. We like to spend time getting to know them: let them play and explore, ask them questions and hear their answers, and hopefully strike up a conversation. This is the most precious part of being a pediatrician to me. Getting to build a relationship not only with the family but the child, one that they too can rely on and feel safe to trust.
Physical Exam
Doing a problem-centered exam in-person helps us investigate what may be the underlying issue. In a well-child exam, we do a physical exam from head to toe; from ears to the back, to assure that your child is developing healthily. At times, you or your child may have a specific area of concern, and based on those inquiries we perform the necessary physical exam to address those concerns. All components of the physical exam are done with the presence of a parent with both consent from the child and parent as is expected in a mutually respectful relationship.
We love to plan for the next step
As we conclude our session, we like you to walk away feeling heard and empowered to know what to do for your child. We help you summarize your child’s health, areas of concern, and provide a plan of steps on how to address concerns with proper follow-up.
Our care doesn’t end at the doorstep.
At Little Roots, we know that the best plan is only as good as the execution, which requires good follow-up and the ability to make changes to fine-tune the plan. Our direct-access model allows you to contact your doctor via messaging/emails/phone calls, and likewise, we help you stay on track by checking in with you periodically.
